Richard Spanton Jr From Small Pumpkins to Big Business
September 23rd, 2008
Richard Spanton Jr. is an Illinois man, as he has lived in the Land of Lincoln since he was born on November 1st many, many years ago. As many other kids in Illinois did, Richard Spanton Jr. played hockey as a child, and he did so ever since the tender young age of three. When Richard Spanton Jr. was attending Hononegah High School in Rockton, Illinois, though, he moved on to football. He excelled in both sports, but his ambitions for life did not stop with athletics.
Richard Spanton Jr. began to get a taste for business when he realized as a very young man that there was money to be had in cash crops from the family farm. In fact, he realized as a child that he could use the land for his own business gains. Richard Spanton Jr. began planting pumpkins in the summer, which he would then sell on the side of the road when fall came around. To this very day, Richard Spanton Jr. still grows organic pumpkins on a farm that he owns in Rockton, Illinois.
After attending Hononegah High School in Rockton, Illinois, Richard Spanton Jr. went on to get his college education at Northern Illinois University and Southern Illinois University. This is where he got his formal training that tied together all the ambition and knowledge that he had gained as a childhood entrepreneur and an elementary / high school athlete. After college, Richard Spanton Jr. decided to really do something with his new business skills. He now owns a national roofing, siding and gutters company called Mastercraft Exteriors.
After growing up in Illinois and gaining a mind for business at an early age, Richard Spanton Jr. has grown to be a business man and a family man, two things he tries to bring together whenever possible – even when it comes to his pumpkin farming.
